Jinxes and Chickens and Annoyingly Persistent Colds, Oh My!

Grrr. Stats First.

I was so optimistic. And you can tell how well things are going by how frequently I blog--it's an inverse relationship! My cold has persisted, and to help my immune system out I have been taking in a few extra calories, just to keep up my strength. Nothing horrendously off plan--just a couple extra eggs here and there, chicken soup etc. I had a full (and final) weekend of the production I was in, thank goodness it's over, as well as a little too much merrymaking on the last night (not food-wise, though there might have been a martini involved) and that did me in for a good 3-4 days. Self sabotage, perhaps? I'd have done an apple day today if my weight hadn't corrected itself. I figure .2 off of my lowest yet was not a cause for huge concern.

It's funny, people keep blaming the Protocol for my illness, when I know it not to be true. I have been on and off the Simeon's plan since mid-January and, while I have had more than my share of coughs and colds this year, none of them, until now, coincided with my being on the diet. I've been far more busy than usual, and especially with the show, run down and exhausted more than usual. I suppose it wasn't the most fantastic idea to begin this round in the midst of the 6-week run, but scheduling-wise, I didn't really have a better alternative. I'll be moving at the end of August, just a few days after I finish this round, and with the major Opera auditions coming up in the fall, I wanted to trim down as much as possible to be competitive looks-wise with all those skinny sopranos out there. Gone are the days of the "Fat Lady Sings". We have to fit a certain image now.

Oh well, bygones (I've said that a lot lately). I have definitely felt more distracted and tempted this round than the last two--I think it's because my level of social activity has skyrocketed. I've decided to eliminate fruit for the 13 days I have left on this phase of the round. Maybe occasional strawberries, and I do still eat tomatoes (which I consider a fruit) but not the 2x a day maximum. 2x a week is more likely. I responded well to the elimination of fruit last time, so here's hoping it helps. I'd love to hit 210 by the end of this round, but I'm not going to make any more foolish predictions!!

Hi Helen,

See if you can find some Elderberry pills - it will help boost your immunity. I have extract - but have not taken during protocol because the only way to extract the immune properties from the berries is using at least 70 proof alcohol... Although I'm sure 1tsp in water a day wouldn't hurt I am not even taking that chance this round! Yah know what I mean :D

There's also the zeolites talked about in Cindy's book...
